The Australian Junior Championship features sprint and distance events in the age classes of U12, U14, U16, U18 and U20. Events are always in alternative style from year to year, with one event Freestyle and the other Classic. In addition, a non-championship XC Cross event is also held on the Saturday afternoon. The Open age class (in the distances for the U18 /U20 classes) count as selection races for the Australian Junior Team.

The 2018 event at Falls Creek is hosted by the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club on behalf of Ski & Snowboard Australia and Ski Cross Country Victoria.
